We're Avvoka
We build legal drafting technology for moments that matter - when the stakes are high, the documents are complex, and speed can't come at the cost of control. Our platform helps legal teams move faster through contracts using automation, collaboration, and AI - without taking judgment away from the lawyers who own the risk. We believe technology should amplify expertise, not replace it.
Avvoka is trusted by leading law firms, banks, and global enterprises, and we've grown through product strength and word of mouth alone. With headcount and revenue up over 70% year on year, we're scaling from a product-led success into a globally recognised legal-tech brand. We're at an inflection point: changing how the world's most sophisticated legal teams work - and building an engineering team where good people do the best work of their careers and actually enjoy the ride.
The role
This is a new chapter for our engineering team, and you'll be the one who helps write it. You'll lead the Software Engineering team - front-end and back-end engineers building the platform sophisticated legal teams lean on every day - and own delivery from first idea to production. You'll shape technical direction with the CTO and sit shoulder to shoulder with the Head of Product on what we build next.
Here's the honest part: we're moving the team into proper agile planning and a real sprint rhythm, and that's new for us. You'll be the person who makes that shift feel natural rather than painful. Twelve months in, you'll be able to point at a team that ships predictably, a release process that just hums, and a roadmap that actually landed.
What you'll do
Lead and grow
Lead and grow a distributed team across Prague and the Philippines, spanning front-end and back-end, and help the next wave of tech leads find their feet.
Set the bar for quality, ownership, and craft - and build a high-trust culture that genuinely works across time zones
Deliver with rhythm
Own delivery of the product roadmap end to end, so the team ships reliably and to a high standard.
Take ownership of our deploy and release cadence - moving it off any single person's plate and onto a predictable schedule that lines up with the sprint cycle and our ongoing server infrastructure work.
Bring agile planning to life for a team that's new to it - helping everyone settle into a sprint rhythm, with estimates that are realistic and commitments that stick.
Partner closely with the Head of Product on what gets built, and in what order.
Shape technical direction
Work with the CTO to shape where the platform goes next (Ruby, Vue.js), balancing long-term architectural health with shipping value fast.
What you'll bring
Real people leadership experience - you've managed and grown engineering teams, and you like doing it.
Technical depth - you can get into architecture and code credibly (we're on Ruby and Vue.js).
A knack for introducing structure and agile ways of working without killing the team's momentum or mood.
Strong collaboration instincts, especially with product and technical leadership.
Experience delivering in a B2B SaaS environment.
The confidence to lead a distributed team across multiple locations and time zones.
Bonus points if you have:
Hands-on Ruby on Rails and/or Vue.js experience.
Guided a team through the move to agile and sprint-based planning before.
Exposure to legal tech or a similarly complex, regulated domain.
